 2023 Preview

West Point finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year West Point just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region eight with a 2-4 region record.

The Warriors last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

West Point was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Warriors want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.8 points a game.

Since 2010, West Point has gone a combined 59-76. Their 43.7% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, West Point has managed to compile a record of 110-150. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A and 263rd in the AHSAA.

The Warriors are led by head coach Don Farley who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 49-56 over the past ten seasons at West Point. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Farley.

This season, the Warriors will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight.

The Warriors open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Good Hope on Friday, August 25 at James W. Shabel Stadium. Last year the Good Hope Raiders finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 4A region six. The Raiders lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Dora by a score of 34-6.

West Point and Good Hope have met a total of 44 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 25-18-1 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2022 with Good Hope winning by a score of 6-0.
